Greenland
In 2016, I embarked on a protracted and arduous journey to Greenland. The initial flight involved several stops, ultimately leading me to Illulisat, a remote Inuit community nestled on the western coast of Greenland, bordering the picturesque Disco Bay.
From the settlement, a short walk sufficed to reach the summit of the cliffs, offering breathtaking views of the ice source from the field and the glacier extending into the heart of Disco Bay. The spectacle was particularly awe-inspiring, with a significant portion of the ice floating in the sea, reaching heights exceeding 2 to 300 feet above the water’s surface. Additionally, the presence of an untold quantity of ice submerged beneath the surface further enhanced the visual spectacle.
The timing of my visit in May was fortuitous, as we were treated to the midnight sun. This phenomenon created a unique ambiance, where darkness persisted throughout the day, making the surroundings even more captivating. Overall, Greenland presented an unforgettable and awe-inspiring experience.
